According to the official site of the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah, the consulate was recognized by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on November 14, 1946, diplomatic relations between Philippines and Saudi Arabia was established on October 20, 1969.

The first Philippine Mission was opened in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on December 23, 1973. It was on September 29, 1983 by the Royal Decree of King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, all diplomatic missions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia would be moved from Jeddah to Riyadh.The Consulate officially commenced operations in July 1985, when the Philippine Embassy, of which it was formerly a part, transferred to Riyadh.
